Hiller allowed just a even-strength goal to Matt Cullen 6:48 into the first period before shutting Carolina out the rest of the way. The slow-starting Hurricanes outshot the Ducks 17-3 in the second period, but couldn't break through against Hiller.

He was replaced by Michael Leighton, who stopped the first seven shots he faced before the consecutive goals by Teemu Selanne and Rob Niedermayer in the third period. Leighton took the 4-1 loss as Ward left in a 1-all game. Ward stopped 12 shots and Leightn finished with 11 saves.

Turco shut out the Oilers on eight shots in the first period before they scored 12:11 into the second. He squandered a 2-0 and 3-2 lead, but picked up the win when Mike Modano scored on a power play with 2:21 remaining. It was his second win in six starts.

He fell behind 2-0 before Edmonton tied the game 4:21 into the third period. Drouin-Deslaurie then allowed two goals in the final six minutes, including Mike Modano's game winner on the power play with 2:21 to play.
