Canned apple pie filling
Ingredients for Canned apple pie filling 4 ½ cups sugar
1 cup cornstarch
2 tsp cinnamon
¼ tsp nutmeg
3 Tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp grated orange rind
5-6 lbs tart apples, peeled, cored and sliced thin
Description Blend first 4 ingredients with 10 cups water
Cook, stirring often till thick and bubbly
Add lemon juice and orange peel
Pack apples into hot jars, pack full but loose and fill within ½ inch with hot syrup
Use a knife to put syrup into crevices
Put lids on tight
Process in boiling water
Quarts – 20 minutes
Pints – 15 minutes
Notes Makes 6 -7 quarts of syrup
